Controversial thought of the week: the role of a coach is to make themselves redundant!

Now, that’s a lie, but it’s a useful one and certainly a fun one to provoke conversation.  In short what I mean by the suggestion is that coaches should seek to make players self sufficient.  We should be trying to give players the basic understanding of their technique, tactics, physicality and psychological skills so that they can begin to “coach themselves”.  Now, obviously two sets of eyes are better than one, but coaches should encourage players to own their development, and players should be interested in giving input, making decisions and driving their own success… after all, it’s the player that’s on court!

See you at training.
