Bull Durham is a baseball movie, filmed in 1988 and starring Kevin Costner and Susan Sarandon. It is held to be one of the best sports movies of all time, and certainly is my favorite. We have a “Bull Durham Blog Series”… partly for fun and partly because there’s so many useful concepts dealt with in the movie that apply to squash!
Our third Bull Durham Blog is based on the immortal quote:
“I’m Crash Davis, your new catcher, and you just got lesson No. 1. Don’t think. It can only hurt the ballclub.
The catcher / coach figure has just finished met the young stud pitcher in a great moment. In a slightly harsh, yet amusing fashion, the catcher exhorts him to not “over analyze”.

Don’t invent “new things” under pressure. Don’t think too much about what winning or losing might mean. Don’t get angry. Concentrate on what can be controlled, focus on the process and for goodness sakes, don’t over think and start fixating on issues that aren’t pertinent… it won’t hurt the ball club, it’ll just hurt you!
